Eight Portuguese companies are travelling to Tokyo to represent Portugal at the Jitac European Textile Fair, from the 24th to the 26th of March. This event, which showcases global fashion trends, will once again receive a vast offer of woven and knitted fabrics "made in Portugal".

Albano Morgado, Gierlings Velpor, Lemar, Ribera, Riopele, Troficolor, Somelos and Tintex, are the Portuguese companies that will be attending this edition of Jitac, in Tokyo.

The Tokyo International Forum receives, once again, the aesthetic quality that is  characteristic of the Portuguese companies, which have been winning their share of the Japanese market.

Lemar, which has exhibited at this trade fair for several years, affirms that the event has progressed significantly, not only in terms of the quantity of visitors, but also in their quality. The company will present its 2016 Spring/Summer Collection, with special highlight on its striped, vichy, and patterned knit fabrics. Continuing its participation at this event is one of the goals of Lemar, which hopes to meet new customers and, of course, increase the volume of business with existing customers.

Ribera, participating in this event for the first time, chose to take part in this edition of JITAC as an initial foray into the Japanese market. Motivated by the high consumption of cotton lace fabric in Japan, the brand will present its top quality lace and embroidered fabrics, with fine threads in mercerised cottons. Ribera's initial goals are to scope out customers and their requirements, and to look for an agent or distributor for the market.

It is clearly a growing market, with increasing purchasing power, and winning its share of the Japanese market is one of the primary objectives of Albano Morgado. Characterized as a demanding market in terms of quality, the company invests in products with added value, through the use of fibres such as linen, cotton and fine wools, which form part of the wide range of products included in the 2016 Summer Collection.

The forecasts continue to be positive, thanks to the success achieved in the previous season. “We believe that by offering a product with a good price/quality ratio, meeting delivery deadlines, and offering an efficient after-sales service, Albano Morgado is combining all the conditions that are essential for medium-term success on the Japanese market”, said Belmira Rodrigues.

The Portuguese offer also includes the quality fabrics of the companies Riopele, Troficolor, Gierlings Velpor, Somelos and Tintex – all of whom have taken part in previous editions of JITAC.

The participation of these Portuguese companies in JITAC, which takes place from the 24th to the 26th of March, is an initiative promoted by Associação Selectiva Moda, with the support of European funds (NSRF), within the From Portugal project, and is part of a series of more than 87 international activities in 2014/2015, covering the entire textile and fashion sector, spread over four continents - Europe, Asia, Africa and America - with a total investment of about 12 million euros.
