It is a well-known fact that many major international fashion brands come to Portugal to produce their collections. Known for its production quality, for the specialized service and the deadlines strictness, the Portuguese textile industry is traditionally one of the main suppliers of the world’s most reputed fashion houses.

On January 15th and 16th, Portugal has a new opportunity to deepen its international image, with the participation of several Portuguese companies in Fashion SVP, a sourcing specialized fair that will take place at Olympia, London.

Part of the Associação Selectiva Moda´s "From Portugal" project, the companies Bugalhós, Gulbena, Lima & Company, Soeiro, Tiva, Trotinete and Wonderroutine, together with Triwool, will be present at the event, where they will have the opportunity to present their new products to the main British brands and to buyers coming from around the world.

"In its last edition, Fashion SVP has demonstrated to be one of the best sourcing fairs" explains Márcia Cortinhas, Lima & Companhia’s representative, a company participating in the event for the second time. Specialized in knitwear, Lima & Companhia brings to London a wide-ranging collection. "The intention is to show a little of what we can do" says Márcia Cortinhas.

At the fair, the Portuguese delegation wants to prove that Portugal’s textile production is flexible and customer-oriented. "We will present a portfolio that shows our know-how and how we differentiate from the other markets" explains Nuno Mendes, Confecções Bugalhós General Manager, a company marking its presence at the event for the very first time.

Besides the productive capacity, the aim is also to show the great variety of products that the Portuguese textile industry has to offer. "We are going to present articles that represent what we do, whether is baby, children or adult clothes, in circular knits or fabric components" explains Nelson Salgado, Wonderroutine’s commercial director.

The focus of the Portuguese entourage is to increase its sales volume to foreign markets, especially the UK. "The English market is a very interesting market to work with, mainly due to people’s reliability", confesses Paula Gomes, Tiva’s representative.

"The UK market has enormous potential, not only for multiple business opportunities, but also because it can open doors to other markets, in Europe and worldwide", says Paulo Pereira, Trotinete’s International Sales Manager, a textile company specialized in uniforms and work-wear production.

The Portuguese companies participation in Fashion SVP is an initiative of Selectiva Moda and ATP - Textile and Clothing Association of Portugal, which aims to promote the internationalization of Portuguese fashion companies. The project “From Portugal” is co-financed by Portugal 2020, under Compete 2020 - Operational Program for Competitiveness and Internationalization, with an eligible support amount of €12,118,285.17, of which €6,695,352.55 comes through the European Regional Development Fund.
