PORTUGAL SETS TRENDS AT MUNICH FABRIC START

ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF STATE AND ECONOMY AT MUNICH FABRIC START

The Portuguese Deputy Minister for the Economy will visit the Portuguese exhibitors present at Munich Fabric Start, at the fairgrounds of the German. João Correia Neves will be present to support the more than thirty companies attending the trade show, and the visit is scheduled for Wednesday, September 1st.

It is a clear sign of the importance of the Portuguese participation in the significant German fabric fair, and the proof of the Government's commitment in supporting the Portuguese textile exports. The official, who will be received by the German organizers at the Portugal Sourcing pavilion, will then visit the stands that make up the Portuguese delegation in the event.

António Manuel de Sousa, Fitecom,  J.Areal, Magma, Marjocri, Moldelmalhas , Otojal, RDD, SanMartin, SM Senra, TMG Lab, Trimalhas, Toptrends , TMR, Tricothius and Troficolor are the Portuguese companies that make up the FROM PORTUGAL delegation, ready to mark its presence in yet another edition of Munich Fabric Start. Paulo de Oliveira, Riopele, Tessimax, Somelos and Source Textile will also be present at the event.

It is with great motivation and big expectations that the Portuguese delegation is travelling to Munich Fabric Start, which will take place from August 31st to September 2nd at MOC Munich. Considered one of the trademarks fairs in Europe, Munich Fabric Start expects around 1000 exhibitors from 40 different countries, and it’s subdivided into two areas: one dedicated to fabrics, the fair's core business, and another devoted to sourcing (Munich Sourcing), which this year will undergo an upgrade in its stands.

Specialized in sustainable fabrics and a regular presence at the Munich fair, RDD returns to the Fabrics and Smart Creation area, where it will present the “Humanity 4.0” collection. "Among the projects that we will present, we highlight Colorifix x RDD, RECYCROM X RDD, FOOD TEXTILE X RDD and RDD X 360, projects that highlight our fundamental concepts of Engineered Colour and Circularity”, details Dolores Gouveia, Design Manager at RDD Textiles.

Fitecom also doesn’t miss an opportunity to be present at Munich Fabric Start. For the Portuguese company, the trade show is a meeting point with the German market, one of the most relevant for Fitecom, which has participated in Munich Fabric Start with its own stand since 2012. “We will present some novelties of our ecological line, namely laminates and composite fabrics with added features such as repellence or temperature regulation”, stated Nuno Mendes, Fitecom's export manager.

After a short period participating in Munich Fabric Start through an agent stand, Troficolor now decides to return on its own to the trade show, where it will present the brand’s denim and Ready to Wear collection, based on the principles of the circular economy.

“This fair is mainly visited by European customers, mostly from the German market. We expect to increase our business volume, either by attracting new customers or by solidifying and monitoring our relationships with current ones”, adds Teresa Reis, the company’s export sales manager.

Making his debut at the Munich fair is Marjocri, which “due to the evolution of the socio-economic situation of this pandemic, feels the need to explore new markets, new products, and new ways of bringing our products to potential new customers”, explains Joana Moura, Marjocri’s Marketing and Communication director. Already present in France and Luxembourg, Marjocri wants to take advantage of its presence in Munich Fabric Start to strengthen the company’s internationalization, and to “show the quality of our products both to consumers and to suppliers”, Joana Moura concludes.

Participating in Munich Sourcing, the company António Manuel de Sousa discloses that so far the presence at this fair has always had “a positive balance”. “The organization of the fair has taken all the necessary measures to make this fair a success. The sourcing location of Portuguese companies is exceptional. We will take our premium line of ties as a novelty for this edition”, explains Ana Sousa.

With the same positive attitude is Source Textile, a private label brand for the medium/high segment specialized in knitwear, which will take its first steps at Munich Fabric Start. “The German market, as well as the Nordic countries, are very important to us, so it makes perfect sense to choose Munich for our debut in international fairs”, explains João Paulo Barbosa, CEO of the Portuguese company that exports at 100%.

The participation of Portuguese SME companies in Munich Fabric Start is framed by the From Portugal project, an initiative of Selectiva Moda and ATP - Textile and Clothing Association of Portugal, which aims to promote the internationalization of Portuguese companies in the fashion area. The “From Portugal” project is co-financed by Portugal 2020, within the scope of Compete 2020 - Operational Program for Competitiveness and Internationalization, with an eligible support amount of € 11,042,311.82, of which € 6,065,501.91 comes from the European Union, through the European Regional Development Fund.
