From Portugal Textiles joins forces in Tokyo

The Portuguese textile companies’ internationalization effort continues, even in an atypical year, and from October 20th to 22nd, returns to Tokyo for another edition of the Jitac European Textile Fair, the sector’s main Japanese trade show. The Portuguese colours will count with a strong entourage of companies that, through a joint participation, promise to show the Portuguese industry’s innovation and sustainability.

In a market where it is necessary to build a relationship of trust and project stability, the From Portugal entourage will still mark its presence, even in atypical conditions. From October 20th to 22nd, another edition of the Jitac European Textile Fair, the main textile fair in Japan, will take place, and the Portuguese industry will be represented by a vast group of companies.

Adalberto, Albano Morgado, Fitecom, Gierlings Velpor, Modelmalhas, Lemar, Paulo de Oliveira, Riopele, Tessimax, Trendburel and Troficolor make up the group From Portugal, put together by Associação Selectiva Moda to represent Portugal in the Japanese event. Over three days of exhibition, the Portuguese companies will present their novelties to local operators, reaffirming the Portuguese industry as a hub of dynamism and innovation in the textile sector.

“This is a trade show for European fabrics, which, due to the organization and the number of contacts it provides, is a good channel for approaching the Japanese market”, explains Nuno Neves, Export Manager at Fitecom, a company that is a regular presence at Jitac. In this edition, the textile company specialized in woolen goods will present its new Fall/Winter 21/22 collection, showcasing solutions in virgin wool and various mixtures: “We give special highlight to fabrics made from sustainable natural fibres and recycled artificial fibres”, says the company representative.

Gierlings Velpor - a company that specializes in fabrics for bus and train seats - will also present a set of new solutions in Tokyo. “We are talking about smooth velvet, made from 100% Cotton, with Lycra, Modal, Viscose, and artificial fur with different finishes and structures”, says Pedro Lima, Sales Director of the company, which seeks to deepen its presence in the Japanese market. “We have been selling in this market for more than 20 years. They are focused, and know what they want”, he says.

Aware of the difficulties in entering the Japanese market - but also of the trustworthiness of the relationships that are created - Adalberto seeks to attract attention with its new Autumn/Winter collection. “We have been working with this market for only two years, and we have changed our agent, so we still haven't achieved great depth in that market”, recalls Tâmara Martins, commercial manager of the company, who hopes to take new steps into Japan.

On Riopele's commercial stand, the focus will be the post-pandemic recovery. “This is an important market for Riopele, and after this crisis we hope to reach the sales volume of the past”, explains António Soares, the company’s market manager, which will also take to Tokyo its new autumn-winter collection.

Modelmalhas, the only newcomer to the entire group, hopes to stand out by presenting four collections: Fancy, Essential, Advanced and Premium, all of them betting strongly on sustainability. “All of these proposals have sustainability embed on its DNA, whether it’s through a careful selection of fibres and yarns used, or through the dyes and finishes”, summarizes John Gomes, the company’s representative, who hopes to establish the first contacts with the Japanese market at Jitac.

At Troficolor, the bet also goes to responsible production: “We keep our focus on Upcycling - creative reuse without the need for production. Fabrics of different types, like Denim, Flannels, corduroy, many of them unique, bring variety and provide endless possibilities in creating exclusive styles”, explains Ana Maria Magalhães, the company’s Export Manager.

The same green wave runs through the various proposals that Lemar will take to Tokyo: “Our Eco Responsible Collection will undoubtedly be our star in Tokyo, with certified 100% Biodegradable fabrics and eco-friendly fibre mixes, in addition to our usual developments in recycled fibres”, says José António Ferreira
