Portuguese children's fashion on its way to the first professional fair since March

Munich will be the city to host the first international fashion and clothing trade show since the start of the pandemic. Adjusted to the new rules, Supreme Kids, which is going to take place between August 14th and 16th, will anticipate the economic recovery, bringing together children's fashion brands from several European countries. Portugal will be represented by Baby Gi, Meia Pata and Peter Jo Kids.

It is a sign of confidence and of the eagerness with which the textile industry and fashion brands are thinking about the economic recovery. With a large number of international events scheduled for the rentrée, the kick-off is taking place between August 14th and 16th, with Supreme Kids, an international trade show dedicated to children's fashion, and where the entourage From Portugal will mark their presence for the first time.

Baby Gi, Meia Pata and Peter Jo Kids are the Portuguese brands that have shown no fear of returning to face-to-face contacts and in the coming days are going to travel to Munich to be present at the German fair. In their luggage they carry a lot of novelties and a great desire to reaffirm Portuguese fashion as an example of contemporary design and responsible production.

"We accepted the challenge because we saw it as a good opportunity to enter the German market and also because it seems to us that being present at this moment shows a bold stance, focused on the differentiation and promotion of the Portugal brand". With these words, Alfredo Moreira, co-founder of the Baby Gi brand, explains why the brand will be present at the German fair. Devoted to newborn clothing, from 0 to 6 months, the brand has some occasional customers in the German market, but wants to reinforce that presence. “It is one of the main European markets, and this trade show is a regional one, quite closed, but with a good performance”, says Alfredo Moreira, who will present the brand’s new spring-summer collection.

"At this moment it is impossible to make predictions, nobody knows what will happen, but we believe that it is possible to attract new customers", adds Carla Areal, CEO of Meia Pata, a Portuguese brand specialized in children's fashion, especially socks. However, at the fair German the company will launch some novelties. “We increased the offer, especially in our bath collection, which now also includes items for mothers. We also launched our swimwear collection because socks are a wintrier product and we need to fight that seasonality. It has been going very well!”, highlights the businesswoman.

In the last cycle of pre-covid fairs, Meia Pata was present at several fairs, such as Fimi, in Valença, INDX Kidswear, in Birmingham, and Pitti Bimbo, in Florence, where it locked important customers in new markets such as Russia or the United States. The goal now is to enter Germany: “it is another market. We are already present in Italy, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, for example, and now we have the goal scoring an agent for Germany”, he explains.

Peter Jo Kids has the same goal. “I hope to find a good agent. We already have customers in Germany and sell very well, but we are looking for an agent for the local market and also for Austria”, explains Anna Sheludko, the brand’s designer, which makes sustainable clothing for girls from 0 at age 12. “All of our production is done in Portugal, in companies with GOTS certification and respecting environmental responsibility practices. We only use sustainable materials, and that is what we want to present to our customers”, stresses the brand representative.

The Portuguese companies participation in Supreme Kids is an initiative of Selectiva Moda and ATP - Textile and Clothing Association of Portugal, which aims to promote the internationalization of Portuguese fashion companies. The project “From Portugal” is co-financed by Portugal 2020, under Compete 2020 - Operational Program for Competitiveness and Internationalization, with an eligible support amount of €11.042.311,82, of which €6.065.501,91 comes through the European Regional Development Fund.
