From Portugal waves the sustainability at Heimtextil 50th Edition

Celebrating half a century of existence, the world's largest home textile fair will host, between January 7 and 10, in Frankfurt, Germany, more than three thousand exhibitors. The Portuguese delegation will be strongly present, with about half a hundred producers, gathered in three special forums, where sustainable textiles promise to attract all the attention.

Sustainability is one of the great flags Heimtextil’s next edition, which will have an intense anniversary program. From January 7 to 10, the iconic German fair celebrates 50 editions, celebrating the date with a series of workshops, new exhibition areas, a night party and commemorative exhibitions.

Portugal, in line with the fair’s agenda, brings to Frankfurt two “The Portuguese Home Tex'Style” forums, filled with the Portuguese industry’s more innovative products. The From Portugal delegation, put together by Associação Selectiva Moda, counts with a large group of companies: por A. Ferreira & Filhos, ACL Impex, Adalberto Estampados, Allcost, AMR, António Salgado, Apertex, B.Sousa Dias, Bovi, Coton Couleur, Docofil – Domingos de Sousa, Escarpa, Fábrica de Tecidos do Carvalho, Fateba, Felpinter, Giestal, INUP, J.F.Almeida, Lameirinho, Massal, Mi Casa Es Tu Casa, Miguel Antunes Fernandes, Moretextile, Mundotextil, Neiperhome, Nosdil, Paralellcotton, Pereira da Cunha, Piscatextil, Piubelle, Rosacel, Sampedro, Sorema, Sotegui, Têxteis Penedo, Têxtil Giestal, Tintex, Traços Singelos and Villafelpos.

CITEVE also brings to Heimtextil’s 50th edition the Green Circle forum, which shows the best of what the Portuguese Textile Industry is achieving in terms of sustainability. The Secretary of State for Economy, João Correia Neves, will be visiting the Portuguese exhibitors at the fair.

Present with its own stand at Heimtextil since 2018, the Portuguese company Allcost promises “to present new products focused on sustainability”. Angela Cadeia, Export Sales Director says: “Allcost's international turnover has been growing from 49% in 2018 to over 65% in 2019. We are sure that the presence at Heimtextil 2020 will contribute not only to increase those numbers, but also to consolidate the growth over the coming years. ” In addition to the consolidation of European markets, namely the Scandinavian, English and Swiss markets, the company expects to sign new customers during the next edition of the fair, in Frankfurt.

Expectations shared by Apertex, which wants to “beat the numbers reached in previous editions”. According to David Ribeiro, Commercial Manager, “Heimtextil remains the most important fair in the sector. It is a reference event that celebrates its 50th anniversary in this edition, a number that is a synonym of grandeur and importance. It's the event where more buyers and exhibitors from around the world come together, and where we have the opportunity to meet with clients that we only see once a year”.  With a range of products covering all home textiles categories, APERTEX states that the focus in this edition will be, “as usual, the bedding”.

Participating in Heimtextil for three editions now, Rosacel Home Textiles guarantees that “for any fair we visit, there is always a lot of previous homework, from the company’s presentation to the search for new contacts. This work always pays off, allowing us to schedule beforehand a list of meetings with new clients. On the other hand, we always receive the visit of our current clients, who come to see the collection. ” Helena Machado, International Sales Manager, says that the company will take to Frankfurt, in addition to the 100% cotton basics, “a collection made with linen, bamboo and REPREVE® polyester, among other noble raw materials, always taking into account the quality/price ratio".

More experienced at Heimtextil, B.Sousa Dias & Filhos, which has more than 30 Heimtextil participations on its curriculum, hopes to “see buyers from other continents, which usually travel to Europe in January”. Fernando Dias, the company’s administrator, has no doubt that Heimtextil is “the most important fair in the business”, and that is why the Portuguese company brings to Frankfurt “the new 2020 collections, both the private label collection and the retail collection”.

Also marking its presence at the largest home textile fair for about thirty years, Sampedro considers the presence at Heimtextil “mandatory”. Simão Moreira Gomes, the company’s president, says that the collection is always very large, encompassing the “bed, table and bath segments with jacquard, dobby and patterned articles, in many textures and compositions”. As they usually do in January, Sampedro will present “various linen articles, but also blends of linen with cotton, or 100% cotton. As we care about sustainability, we will also be presenting organic cotton, yarn with recycled fibre, blends with hemp and bamboo, and natural dyed yarn fabrics. ”

For Pedro Gama, Fateba’s Commercial Director, Heimtextil is “still the most important home textile fair on the international scene”. The Portuguese company will present “jacquard table and kitchen products”, and with these novelties expects to “sign new markets and reinforce the existing ones”.

Devoted 100% to exports, Coton Couleur believes that its new collection, which will be taken to Frankfurt from January 7 to 10, “will surely draw the attention of the public”. This is the belief of Carlos Carvalho, CEO of the Portuguese company, who reveals that the highlight “will be placed on sustainable bedding, in addition to a whole panoply of new colours, materials and textures, with new added value”. Coton Couleur hopes to consolidate the European market and also sign “US and Asian buyers, which have been increasing over the last few years, namely Japanese, Korean and also Australian, among others”, concludes the company's CEO.

Textêis Penedo hopes to maintain its “market positioning by presenting innovative products that only our company’s high quality can manufacture. We look forward to meeting potential buyers from around the world”. According to Xavier Leite, the company’s CEO, “Heimtextil is the main home textile showcase in the world, representing one of the best opportunities to display what we do best”. The Portuguese company will take to Frankfurt “a lot of novelties in all of our Home, hotel and decoration lines, with some highlight on products made with our Cork-a-Tex yarn ”.

Villafelpos also leaves for Frankfurt with clear goals. “It's a worldwide textile fair and it's always good to be there. We already have meetings scheduled, and this year we will present a new collection, with a range of differentiated products”, says Cristina Galvão, commercial director of the company from Guimarães, without revealing more details about the novelties that will be presented at the fair.

Less positive about the international outlook are A.Ferreira & Filhos/Homania’s representatives, which hope to “return more excited” from Frankfurt, where they will present the company’s “latest winter 2020 collection, made especially for HEIMTEXTIL, filled with eco-sustainable solutions ...”. Noel Ferreira has no doubt that this is “the largest event of its kind in the world. It’s the participation that offers the least doubts from the private label point of view”, he concludes.

The Portuguese companies participation in Heimtextil is an initiative of Selectiva Moda and ATP - Textile and Clothing Association of Portugal, which aims to promote the internationalization of Portuguese fashion companies. The project “From Portugal” is co-financed by Portugal 2020, under Compete 2020 - Operational Program for Competitiveness and Internationalization, with an eligible support amount of €12,118,285.17, of which €6,695,352.55 comes through the European Regional Development Fund.
