From Portugal textiles strengthen ties with the Japanese market

Japan is asserting itself as a strategic and value-added market for the Portuguese textile exports. Known for their attention to detail, the Japanese customers see the Made in Portugal label as a synonym of quality, reliability and innovation. From October 15th to 18th, this proximity will be reinforced by a strong Portuguese delegation participating in the Jitac European Textile Fair in Tokyo.

Geographical distance is becoming increasingly irrelevant to the relationship between the Portuguese textile industry and the Japanese buyers. Over the past few years, a perfect match has been reached between the two sides: to the high level of demand of the Japanese customers, the Portuguese companies answer with constant novelties and a clear bet on high quality products.

Building a relationship of trust - which is highly valued in the Japanese market, where stability is fundamental - has greatly contributed to the Portuguese entourages’ presence in Japanese fairs. From October 15th to 18th, a large group of Portuguese companies will be travelling to Tokyo to participate in the Jitac European Textile Fair.

Albano Morgado, Burel Factory, Eurobotonia, Fitecom, Lemar, Otojal, Texser and Troficolor make up the From Portugal delegation, which will be joined by the companies Adalberto, Paulo de Oliveira, Riopele and Tessimax. At the Japanese fair, the Portuguese exhibitors will have the opportunity to contact with thousands of local buyers, consolidating the existing commercial ties.

“The Japanese market has a lot of prestigious brands,” explains Ana Magalhães, Troficolor’s Export Sales Manager. Specialized mainly in the denim sector, Troficolor has found that Japanese customers are sensitive to the company’s commitment to develop new and more sustainable products. “This fair allows us to approach and consolidate our presence in a market that fits our strategy,” says the company representative.

“A company being successful in Japan, it’s a synonym of high quality in all aspects”, explains Nuno Neves, Fitecom's export manager. A specialist in wool, Fitecom is one of many Portuguese companies presenting novelties in Tokyo. “In this edition we will present our new fall/winter collection, made up from virgin wool fabrics and various blends, highlighting our ecological and sustainable solutions”, says the company representative.

The Portuguese companies participation in Jitac European Textile Fair is an initiative of Associação Selectiva Moda and ATP - Textile and Clothing Association of Portugal, which aims to promote the internationalization of Portuguese fashion companies. The project “From Portugal” is co-financed by Portugal 2020, under Compete 2020 - Operational Program for Competitiveness and Internationalization, with an eligible support amount of €12,118,285.17, of which €6,695,352.55 comes through the European Regional Development Fund.
