Portuguese children's fashion sets the trends in Madrid

Portugal will have a strengthened and outstanding presence in the next edition of FIMI, the international fair of children's and youth fashion, which takes place in Madrid between July 5th and 7th. With several brands on display, the Portuguese fashion promises to stand out by presenting new designs and new products.

The great stages of European fashion are becoming increasingly familiar to the Portuguese children's fashion brands. After Pitti Bimbo in Florence and Playtime in Paris, they are now present in Madrid, at FIMI, with new products and collections, in another demonstration of the made in Portugal quality.

Baby Gi, Bonjour, Es Parte de Mim, Meia Pata, Mimi Chic, Peter Jo Kids and Phi Clothing make up the Associação Selectiva Moda’s "From Portugal" entourage. At the fair, the Portuguese brands hope to contact new buyers, and take decisive steps towards internationalization.

"We are starting to internationalize the brand, and we think the Spanish market is the best," explains Inês Peliz, Mimichic representative, a Portuguese brand of baby and girl clothing. With its eyes set on foreign markets, Mimichic will present a new spring / summer collection, with hopes of increasing the number of stores where it is present.

The discovery of new geographies is also the main motivation of És Parte de Mim, which focuses essentially on the international aspect of the fair. "Although it is a fair in Spain, the Spanish market is not our main target. We are looking for new destinations," explains the designer Nani Sousa. With that in mind, the brand will present a new collection of clothes for babies from age 0 to 2 years old.

Already experienced at the fair - a presence since 2016 - Baby Gi hopes to repeat the success of the last editions. "It’s always a fair with good results. We are growing in the Spanish market, and we expect to continue increasing sales", says Alfredo Moreira, the brand director, which also announced the launch of a new summer collection.

Peter Jo Kids, on the other hand, will be debuting at FIMI. "It is the first time we’re participating in FIMI. We expect to find buyers from Spain, but our structure can sell to all markets. We already export to Europe, America and Asia without any logistical problems," says Anna Sheludko, responsible for the brand’s Design and Marketing.

The Portuguese companies participation in FIMI is an initiative of Selectiva Moda and ATP - Textile and Clothing Association of Portugal, which aims to promote the internationalization of Portuguese fashion companies. The project “From Portugal” is co-financed by Portugal 2020, under Compete 2020 - Operational Program for Competitiveness and Internationalization, with an eligible support amount of €12,118,285.17, of which €6,695,352.55 comes through the European Regional Development Fund.
