Portuguese textiles bet on exports and take novelities to Munich

The Portuguese textile industry will be represented at the Munich Fabric Start, from January 29th to 31st, with a strong delegation of companies. Conquering new customers and taking the Portuguese production further and further ahead is the main goal of the whole entourage.

From January 29th to 31st, Portugal will take to Munich Fabric Start a strong entourage of companies from the textile and clothing industry various sectors. In Munich, Germany, the Portuguese industrialists will show their products, always with the aim of increasing the sector’s export volume, which already represents 10% of all Portuguese exports.

A.Sampaio, Albano Morgado, Anbievolution, J.Areal, LA Estampa, Luís Azevedo, Lurdes Sampaio, M.M.R.A., Magma Têxtil, Modelmalhas, OTS by Otojal, RDD, Samofil, Sanmartin, Satinskin Têxteis, Sidónios, Texser, Tintex and Trimalhas are the companies that embark on the "From Portugal" entourage, which will be present in Germany with the support of Selectiva Moda. At the fair, CITEVE will also be represented. The textile industry’s research center will showcase sustainable products totally produced in Portugal.

Over the course of the three-day event, the Portuguese delegation will have the opportunity to contact international buyers, coming from around the world. The fair, which runs twice a year, usually counts on more than 20 thousand professional visitors, from the textile and clothing industry’s most varied sectors.

This is a unique opportunity for the Portuguese companies to take new steps into foreign markets. "It’s a renowned fair" summarizes Cláudia Faria, Magma Têxtil’s representative, one of the companies present. Participating for the first time at the event, the Barcelos textile will present a selection of knitted articles, mainly with the aim of attracting customers from major European markets, such as Germany, France and England.

Albano Morgado also aims to the German market and leaves for Munich with strong expectations. "We are going to present fabrics for men's and women's outer garments in various raw materials", explains Baltazar Lopes, the company’s Chief Commercial Officer.

The well-established markets are the most sought-after destinations for the Portuguese textiles, which are essentially focused on high-end products. "Germany is a market that wants differentiated, innovative and added value products," exemplifies Sara Pimenta, Anbievolution’s commercial representative. At the fair, the company from Santo Tirso will present a wide selection of circular knits, from jerseys to plush.

With this delegation, Portugal will seek to establish itself as one of the most developed countries regarding ecological textiles. "We are going to present products with sustainable, recycled, organic and biodegradable thread," says Conceição Sá, manager of the company Lurdes Sampaio, whose product offering is made, in 60%, by sustainable fabrics.

In this field, RDD Textiles will also present novelties. "One of the company’s values is sustainability, which goes through the whole process – from the raw materials to the design, development and manufacturing of the final product" explains Elsa Parente, the company’s Business Manager.

Tintex, another company present, has been shining internationally for its bet on more sustainable solutions. After being recognized for its environmental ethics at Première Vision, in Paris, and at ISPO, in Munich, the company from Vila Nova de Cerveira maintains its commitment to sustainability and brings a diverse presentation of eco-friendly articles to Munich Fabric Start.

Also focusing on sustainable fashion, CITEVE will be present at the fair six outfits from the Green Circle, a project that challenges Portuguese stylists to design new clothes using the ecological materials provided by the Portuguese companies. CITEVE will also present the most recent developments regarding Smart Textiles.

But there are more Portuguese companies exhibiting at the fair as: 6 Dias, Adalberto Estampados, Carvema Têxtil, Fitecom, João & Feliciano, Paulo De Oliveira, Penteadora, Riopele, Somelos Tecidos, Tessimax Lanifício, Vilarinho and Vilartex.

The Portuguese companies participation in Munich Fabric Start is an initiative of Selectiva Moda and ATP - Textile and Clothing Association of Portugal, which aims to promote the internationalization of Portuguese fashion companies. The project “From Portugal” is co-financed by Portugal 2020, under Compete 2020 - Operational Program for Competitiveness and Internationalization, with an eligible support amount of €12,118,285.17, of which €6,695,352.55 comes through the European Regional Development Fund.
