Competitive and demanding, the Japanese market remains an area of choice for the Portuguese exports. With a commercial relationship dating from the sixteenth century, Portuguese and Japanese have always understood each other well in the business field and Tokyo is already an old acquaintance of the Portuguese companies.

With this context in mind, is not a surprise that the Portuguese delegation sees with special optimism the presence in another international fair based in Japan, where hundreds of local visitors are expected. In this edition of Jitac European Textile Fair, that will take place from October 16th to 18th, the "From Portugal" entourage will represent the Portuguese colours with a selection of several companies: Albano Morgado, Fitecom, Lemar, Texser, Trendburel and Troficolor.

In addition to the contacts already established and to the scheduled meetings, the exhibitors carry in the luggage the Portuguese industry’s know-how and a vast collection of fabrics, specially chosen according to the preferences of the Japanese market. It’s, for example, Texser’s case, a company well acquainted with the local requirements: "We have brought a collection thought for the Japanese market, which mainly includes winter solutions", explains José António Ferreira, the company’s manager for external markets. Among the chosen articles, the company’s manager highlights their collection of flannels: "The Portuguese flannel is well-known, has already a great history and it’s recognized for its quality," he says.

Also familiar with the Japanese tastes, Fitecom brings a selection of articles made from various fabrics, from 100% wool to the ones made from wool with Lycra, among others. With this commercial trip, the company hopes to take decisive steps and grow, in a market where it is already present. "We already have some customers in Japan, but we seek to consolidate our presence," says Nuno Neves, the company’s commercial representative.

Adalberto, Gierlings Velpor, Paulo de Oliveira, Riopele e Somelos will also be exhibiting in Tokyo for the Jitac.

The Portuguese companies participation in Jitac European Textile Fair is an initiative of Selectiva Moda and ATP - Textile and Clothing Association of Portugal, which aims to promote the internationalization of Portuguese fashion companies. The project “From Portugal” is co-financed by Portugal 2020, under Compete 2020 - Operational Program for Competitiveness and Internationalization, with an eligible support amount of €12,118,285.17, of which €6,695,352.55 comes through the European Regional Development Fund.
