PORTUGUESE LEADERSHIP AT ISPO MUNICH

Another record-breaking edition of the ISPO Munich will be taking place from 28 - 31 January. The exhibition grounds, with an area exceeding 10,700 sq ft, will welcome 44 Portuguese companies in this Associação Selectiva Moda initiative in cooperation with Citeve. The Minister of Economy, Manuel Caldeira Cabral, will be attending and visiting the Portuguese companies participating in the fair.

The Minister of Economy, Manuel Caldeira Cabral, will be attending the fair on 28th January at the invitation of ATP (Portuguese Association of Textiles and Clothing) and will be visiting the Portuguese participants in the Munich ISPO.

The Portuguese presence registers a new high at this edition of the ISPO Munich with an exhibition area of over 10,700 sq ft (2017: 9,935 sq ft), reflecting the importance of this event to the Portuguese textile and clothing industry. The Associação Selectiva Moda, in partnership with Citeve, has once again organised two halls under the “Sport Textile Village FROM PORTUGAL” concept. A broad and comprehensive range of clothing, sports shoes, socks and shin guards, including fabric and textile accessory manufacturers, will be showcased.

“From Idea to Business” is the directive featured in the CITEVE - Technological Centre for the Portuguese Textile and Clothing Industry booth, who will, once again, be present at ISPO, the world’s leading sports trade fair. “We want to promote the Centre’s expertise in designing and developing Sporting products and procedures that are strongly related to the innovative component and showcase what CITEVE has to offer in terms of Product validation / certification tests and trials, which are especially important as far as sports performance products go.”, states the managing director, António Braz Costa.

Portuguese products are also featured at the ISPO Textrends Forum, where 36 winning samples from 7 Portuguese companies, some of which deserving of the Best Product and Top 10 seal of approval, stand out from among 512 applications.

EcoPro, first-timer and finalist at the ISPO Brandnew fair in the Accessories category, will present its anti-slip for surfboards manufactured from 100% cork agglomerate. The ecoPro Cork Traction Pad was elected into the ISPO Brandnew Top 50 from the brand’s range of products.“I am impressed with all the positive feedback that we are getting, culminating with the award, as one of the most promising new companies in the industry. These are remarkable reactions!”, states Ruben Verdadeiro, responsible for the development of the ecoPro Cork Traction Pad.
In its third attendance, Island Cosmos, a knit specialist, shows its major novelty items from which 11 products were selected with the ISPO Textrends Selection mention. “We want to showcase our products and attract clients within this market to meet their needs”, says Ana Rita Augusto.

Personalised bands, bands with buckles, elastic bands, cotton bands, polypropylene bands and polyester bands are featured by Idepa in Munich. “We are increasingly seeking markets where product performance requires specific know-how. Our knowledge is essential”, states Yesica Filipe, from the company’s marketing department.

This is the fourth time Joaps, specialist in fabrics tailored for sports and techno-fashion using threads with technical properties, is participating in the fair. “Joaps is investing in a market segment which is more geared towards technical/sports articles and therefore this trade fair is aligned with our project. We are certain that our presence will contribute greatly to the increase of exports in the sports market”, points out Carla Araújo, sales head for the company.

At its début in Munich, J. Caetano intends to “broaden the client portfolio and showcase the company”. Shirts, skirts, dresses, among others aimed at mountaineering, outdoor, trekking, etc. are the highlights of its range of products.

Sewing threads with special finishings, reflective threads and yarns, PA for the hosiery and knitwear industry, patterned and recycled threads, are some of the products featured at the Lipaco booth. For the CEO, Jorge Ferreira, the company’s presence at ISPO is of utmost importance, “the sports sector is very dynamic and widespread and is rapidly expanding on a global scale, continuously in search of new solutions, where Lipaco can step in with its products and finishings”.

For its first ISPO launch, Moovexx brings a revolutionary value-adding solution to the brand market. Their technology applied to waistlines allows them to adjust with movement, guaranteeing performance and aesthetics. “We realise the time has come to reveal this innovative concept that we represent to the brands and designers”, states Manuela Gomes, technical head for Europe.

Oldtrading features innovative products that embody the benefits of Seamless technology. “This fair receives tremendous international coverage and sports apparel is the main feature, we intend to attract new clients who require Private Label value-added products and solutions”, explains Rui Gordalina, the company CEO.

Also a first-timer, Smart Inovation will present its major novelties with special attention to a unique technology that enables the incorporation of attributes in any kind of textile product within the scope of the health and safety, Si Repel Mosquito (non-toxic, safe, odourless, effective mosquito repellent resistant to over 100 washings) and Si Bactericide (eliminates bacteria and fungi without the use of silver or other toxic substances and neutralises odours). “We intend to promote our technology to the brands, retailers and players acting in the technical, sports and outdoors clothing sector, among others, in order to increase our industry and market visibility and develop partnerships that allow our technology to be incorporated into the textile products of oher companies”, states Mário Brito, company CCO.

Tintex, third-time attendant at the fair, considers that all participations were a success. “We were distinguished in every edition of ISPO TEXTRENDS in several products under various categories. Important international brands within the active wear and athleisure sector are very interested in our products and collections, which stand out for combining creativity and performance, style and functionality, innovation and sustainability. These brands will visit us at this fair, since ISPO is indeed ‘The largest trade fair for sport business’”, points out Mário Jorge Silva, company CEO. Special emphasis goes to B.CORK® by TINTEX, selected for Best Product in the Soft Equipment category.

Tapa Costuras was present at two editions under its parent company, Brandbias, and in this edition is presenting a collection focused on sustainable products. “Our collection encompasses casual wear, which privileges comfort and practicality as well as technical sportswear that highlights resistant and lightweight materials. Similarly, we will present to foreign market our innovation and development projects, which include concept pieces, use of innovative materials and their combination with traditional Portuguese materials”, explains Gonçalo Serra, general manager. Over the last 3 years the brand has consolidated its contacts in the two editions in which it participated and “the time has come to return with the original expectation to attract more clients in the German and Scandinavian markets”, he adds.

Six other Portuguese companies will also exhibit at this fair: CeNTI - Centre of Nanotechnology and Smart Materials - Faria da Costa - Inovafil, S.A. - Fashion Manifesto - Sancar Textile.
The participation of these 32 Portuguese companies at ISPO is an initiative promoted by Selectiva Moda and ATP - Associação Têxtil e Vestuário de Portugal (Association of Textiles and Clothing of Portugal), which aims to promote the internationalisation of Portuguese fashion companies. The From Portugal project is co-financed by Portugal 2020, within the scope of the Compete 2020 - Operational Programme for Competitiveness and Internationalisation. The value of eligible support totals EUR 12,118,285.17, of which EUR 6,695,352.55 is provided by the European Union under the European Regional Development Fund.
