ISPO Munich opens its doors from the 5th to 8th February and boasts a record number of Portuguese participants in this edition. 21 Portuguese companies are part of the FROM PORTUGAL SPORT TEXTILE VILLAGE, an initiative promoted by Associação Selectiva Moda within the scope of the From Portugal internationalisation project, with the support of EU funds (NSRF).

The FROM PORTUGAL SPORT TEXTILE VILLAGE joint exhibition stand, which is making its appearance at ISPO Munich for the third year running, has tripled its exhibition space since the first edition, showing the clear focus of the FROM PORTUGAL project in the field of innovative textiles where technical applications for sports are a growing area.
A total of 21 Portuguese companies occupying around 450 m2 will be showcasing their products at ISPO, with the support of the FROM PORTUGAL project (supported by NSRF and COMPETE): A Sampaio & Filhos | Berg Outdoor | Damel | Dune Blue | Fiorima | Fitexar | Garbo | Heliotêxtil | INC Brand | JOAPS Malhas | Lipaco | LMA | Lurdes Sampaio | Malhas CEF | Mesh | Nordstorm Apparel | P&R Texteis | Playway | Sak Project | Slow Image | Sonicarla.

"This will also be the largest joint Portuguese participation ever, with three islands being showcased, and therefore our expectations for this trade fair are very positive", says Helder Rosendo, Deputy General Director of Citeve.

Joaps, a specialist company in knitwear for sports and techno fashion, is making its debut at ISPO. Highlight goes to the presentation of knitted fabrics whose technical and functional characteristics include the fact that they are breathable, antibacterial and quick drying. “Joaps is investing in a market segment which is more geared towards technical/sports articles and therefore this trade fair is in line with our project. We hope that our participation will lead to the growth of our project in the export market and enable us to get to know this market better”, explains Carla Araújo, the company's sales representative.

Elastic threads and yarns and polyamides for weaving developed for the sports socks sector are the products featured by Lipaco, which is also a newcomer to the trade fair. “The sports market is increasingly more technological and fashionable, with an ever growing number of people taking up sports and therefore an above average growth rate, thus leading to the development of new market niches”, says Jorge Pereira, the company's CEO. Expectations in regard to participating in this trade fair are very positive. “Our participation is aimed at promoting our solutions, both in terms of sewing threads and textured yarns, to a very specific and increasingly technological market”, he adds.

“Stress Out” is the women's fitness and sportswear collection which newcomer Slow Image will be presenting at the Munich trade fair. The collection is designed with the use of raw materials and technical manufacturing processes, which combine fashion with the needs of the active woman. “We chose this trade fair because it is Europe's leading sports trade fair. We aim to attract new clients, both German and other nationalities, for our own Stress Out brand and for production for other brands”, states Eduarda Silva Pereira, the company's manager.

“This is a potential market for Playway, and this Munich trade fair sees the integration of our main product which primarily performs in the technical/sports arena ”, explains José Mendes, sales representative of the company. The new equipment that the Portuguese company will be showcasing – TR1 digital circular looms - stands out for its innovation and differentiation. “We believe that the innovation of our product and its differentiation will mean the opening up of new markets, and naturally new clients being gained”, he adds.

Sports and leisure products with mixed sewing techniques, in particular heat sealed techniques, are the highlights of Nordstorm Apparel. “Our presence at the trade fair will give our company more visibility as a player in the outdoor activities and sports market, and contribute to an increase in the number of clients and turnover”, says Acília Amandi, the company's manager.

Malhas CEF, a regular at the trade fair, believes that ISPO is an excellent meeting point for getting together with clients and showcasing the main novelties, as well as attracting new clients who are interested in our know-how. “Our participation is aimed at showcasing our know-how in seamless articles. Proposals mainly geared towards sports, in particular outdoor sports, as well as clothing items and base layer items, such as underwear, will be highlighted. Most of our proposals combine synthetic and natural fibres in order to obtain functional and technical objectives and are characterised by moisture control for the evaporation of perspiration and the application of structures placed in strategic areas to better protect the body. We will be mainly showcasing the following: Thermal regulation products, compression thermals, technical seamless items for running and ski wear, and body mapping” explains Helena Soares, from the company's communications department.

In addition to the record number of Portuguese participants at ISPO Munich, the number of samples selected for ISPO Textrends Forum, is synonymous with success. A total of 21 made in Portugal samples will be showcased at the third edition of ISPO Textrends Forum, in February 2015.

“The number of Portuguese products which will be on show at ISPO Textrends Forum represents the quality of what is made by the Portuguese industry for this market”, concludes Helder Rosendo, Deputy General Director of Citeve and member of the ISPO Textrends Forum jury.

The participation of Portuguese companies in ISPO is an initiative promoted by Associação Selectiva Moda with the support of European funds (NSRF), within the From Portugal project, and is part of a series of more than 87 international activities in 2014/2015, covering the entire textile and fashion sector, spread over four continents - Europe, Asia, Africa and America - with a total investment of 12 million euros.
