Twenty Portuguese companies will be showing at the Munich Fabric Start tradeshow, which has been increasingly attracting buyers from all over the world. A record participation that places the German market on the top of the strategic preferences of Portuguese fabric industry. Fabrics “made in Portugal” are registering an increasing demand in Germany. With an eclectic and original offer that includes knits, laces, denim, flannel or wools, the Portuguese companies have been drawing attention from the biggest and the best German brands, from Hugo Boss to Adidas.

Albano Morgado is debuting in Munich with its own stand, after adding several participations with its local agent. «Due to the relevance that this tradeshow has been gaining over time, we’ve decided to take a risk with our own participation with the purpose of increasing our turnover within the German market», justifies Baltazar Lopes. The company will be showing fabrics with new wool and cotton blends, innovative textures and special finishes. «We’ve developed water repellent articles such as double wool fabrics with membrane applications. When it comes to palette, we’ve introduced 12 new colours in this collection», he adds.

At Vilartex, the collection is vast and mixes classic knits, but also organics, technical and functional. «Fashionwear, Citywear, Casual and Sportswear, Nigthwear, Underwear, Outwear, Basic Articles, Jacquards, Engineer Stripes, Several Blends of Fibers are some of the proposals that we are going to exhibit at the tradeshow in Germany», lists Carlos Coutinho, responsible for external markets. «This is a very important market for Vilatex, so it makes perfect sense to endure and consolidate this internationalization project, with the goal of bringing markets and clients closer together», he explains.

In the meantime, Gierlings Velpor explored the potential of jacquard technologies and digital printing in velvet and synthetic fur, in order to enhance the supply destined to the German and Austrian markets, aiming at «fostering the company’s role at these two markets mainly with the tridimensional fabrics», reveals administrator João Teixeira Duarte.

A Têxtil de Serzedelo bets on a «collection of classic and sportswear articles, with fabrics for men, women and children shirts in 100% cotton and synthetic, which colours, designs and textures are always innovative», claims administrator Camilo Almeida, who considers Germany of extreme relevance for the growth of the company’s turnover in external markets. «For that reason, the Munich Fabric Start tradeshow is the main engine for the pursuit of those goals», he underlines.

The participation of the Portuguese companies A Sampaio & Filhos, A Têxtil de Serzedelo, Adalberto Estampados, Albano Morgado, Arco Têxteis, Gierlings Velpor, Lemar, Living Colours, Lurdes Sampaio, NGS Malhas, Paulo de Oliveira, Penteadora, Riopele, SanMartin, Somelos Tecidos, Teviz by Polopique, Tessimax, TMG Textiles, Troficolor and Vilartex at Munich Fabric Start, from September 2nd to 4th is an initiative promoted by Associação Selectiva Moda with the support of European funding (Qren), within From Portugal’s project. In 2014 this project includes a series of over 65 international actions, which embrace the entire textile and fashion sector, throughout the four continents – Europe, Asia, Africa and America – in a total investment of 9 million euros.
