PORTUGUESE FASHION IN COLOMBIA: THE LARGEST DELEGATION EVER

From 22 - 24 July all eyes will be on the 25th edition of ColombiaModa, which will boast the attendance of the largest Portuguese delegation ever in Latin America, as part of the FROM PORTUGAL project, with the support of NSRF. In addition to the participation of Portuguese companies with an exhibition stand, Selectiva Moda, in partnership with APICCAPS, is organising a magnificent fashion show, the motto of which is MODA PORTUGAL (PORTUGUESE FASHION).

Around thirty Portuguese textile companies will be taking part in the upcoming edition of ColombiaModa, divided into five areas: fashion, home textiles, raw materials, lingerie and technical textiles. The highlight of the great delegation from Portugal will be on the first day of the fashion fair (22 July) at 15.00 hrs. when clothing and footwear will come together in a magnificent fashion show entitled – MODA PORTUGAL (PORTUGUESE FASHION). 

Showcasing in the “Pabellón Amarillo” (Yellow Pavilion) and making its debut in Medellín, is PriscillaWear/Catman, presenting its women's and men's beachwear collection in Colombia. “Everything is made in Portugal and the Latin American market is our goal, Colombia in particular, because our collection is rich in colours, originality and detail, which combined with quality, enables us to offer a chic swimwear line for both parents and children!”, explains Priscilla Trindade, owner and creative designer for the brand. 

Another newcomer to Medellín, Layer Wear Production, also in the “Pabellón Amarillo” (Yellow Pavilion), will be showcasing its women's wear collection, which is centred on In Time fashion, the men's wear collection centred on the vintage look and the children's collection, which is made up of licensed products. “We chose ColombiaModa, not just because we have a strategic position in relation to entering the South American market, but also because it is an attractive market in terms of clothing sales”, explains Gustavo Gaia, company manager. 

Portuguese companies Custoitex and Miopo will also be attending and making their debut at the fair, with the aim of diversify their client base.

The introduction of technical textiles in this market is being driven by Selectiva Moda in partnership with CITEVE - the Technology Centre for the Portuguese Textile and Garment industry - which are organising a display of Technical Textiles, showcasing some of the representative products and samples of the best that is produced in Portugal in the area of technical and innovative textiles, products, fabrics and applications in the various sectors and the presence of the Portuguese project - Manifesto Moda - developed within the scope of the Portuguese Fashion News project and the responsibility of Paulo Gomes and Ana Salcedo, which is comprised of collections from various designers, using a wide array of technical textiles, the main objective being to highlight the performance of the fabric applied to quality design garments, which are simple and timeless. 

Selectiva Moda has been investing in the Latin American market for 3 years (since 2011) as a result of studies conducted by ATP - the Portuguese Textile and Clothing Association - together with Selectiva Moda, which indicated that the South American market would be a leverage platform for diversifying exports in the national textile and clothing sector. The number of Portuguese companies interested in the Colombian market has increased significantly and in this 25th edition, the largest delegation ever of Portuguese companies in Latin America will be present, with a total of 32 companies.

The 25th edition of ColombiaModa is presented under the slogan “Transcending Limits”. More than just a clothing, footwear, leather goods, jewellery and costume jewellery trade fair, it is a meeting place, in Colombia, for the best brands, designers and stylists from all over the world.

The participation of Portuguese companies in ColombiaModa, is an initiative promoted by Associação Selectiva Moda with the support of European funds (NSRF - COMPETE), within the From Portugal project, and is part of a series of more than 65 international activities planned for 2014, covering the entire textile and fashion sector, spread over four continents - Europe, Asia, Africa and America - with a total investment of 9 million Euros.
