The 11th edition of Techtextil North America, one of the world's leading trade shows exclusively dedicated to technical textiles and non-wovens will be held from 13 - 15 May 2014. The Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta will be attended by three Portuguese companies – Cordex – Fiorima – Lipaco – with the support of Associação Selectiva Moda, under the From Portugal internationalisation project.

Cordex – Fiorima – Lipaco – are the three Portuguese companies travelling to Atlanta to participate in another edition of Techtextil North America, an initiative organised by Associação Selectiva Moda, together with partner Citeve. Market developments, new technical processes and products as well as international trends in the sector, will be the highlighted themes.

The participation of CITEVE in Techtextil North America follows a strategy defined by the Centre in promoting their service portfolio in alternative international markets to the European Union. “Among the services included in this promotional strategy are Tests & Trials, product certification, R&D and international consultancy, in particular in the following technical and functional textile markets: Protection & Safety, Mobility and Sports & Leisure. It will be CITEVE's fourth participation in Techtextil North America (Atlanta) and expectations are running high, in light of the growth that has been seen in the textile and clothing industry in this great global market”, explains Helder Rosendo, Deputy General Manager of Citeve.

Lipaco, which is making its debut at the trade show, is presenting two new products in Atlanta. “We chose this trade show to present two new products with innovative features and properties. One is destined for the sports and safety market and the other for the security forces market, particularly the military market, which is a large sector in the USA”, reveals Jorge Pereira, the company's CEO. Special sewing threads and textured yarns with innovative IRR finishes are the products highlighted. “We aim to assess the market and see how our products are received, particularly those which are more technical”, he adds.

Cordex, a repeat attendee in this market, is taking it brand segment Cordexpro to Atlanta, “not just to reach new American customers, but other markets too, such as Latin America, Asia and the Middle East”, says Rui Vieira, from company's Marketing Department. Highlight goes to the polypropylene multifilament yarn for application in technical safety textiles; Cordsteel® (polysteel) cord to reinforce concrete, polypropylene cord for geotextiles; Cordsteel® (polysteel) and polyethylene monofilament for cordage; sisal, polypropylene yarn and cords for packaging; and polypropylene cords for telecommunications. “We hope with our attendance not just to obtain a significant number of new business leads, but also to reinforce the presence of the Cordexpro brand in this very competitive market”, he adds.

The participation of Portuguese companies in Techtextil North America, is an initiative promoted by Associação Selectiva Moda with the support of EU funds (NSRF), under the From Portugal project, and is part of a series of more than 65 international activities planned for 2014, covering the entire textile and fashion industry, spread over four continents – Europe, Asia, Africa and America – with a total investment of 9 million euros.
