The German market continues to be very attractive for textile companies made-in Portugal, the proof of which is the significant increase in Portuguese attendance in each edition of Munich Fabric Start. This edition, which takes place from 4 - 6 February is no exception and a Portuguese committee of 18 companies will be attending the event – A.Sampaio&Filhos – Adalberto Estampados – Arco Têxteis – Gierlings Velpor – Lemar – Living Colours – NGS Malhas – Paulo de Oliveira – Penteadora – Riopele – Samartin – Somelos Tecidos – Teviz by Polopique – Tessimax – Texser/A Textil Serzedelo – TMG Textiles – Troficolor – Vilartex – as part of an initiative promoted by Associação Selectiva Moda, within the scope of the From Portugal internationalisation project.

A regular presence at the trade show, Riopele has been investing quite heavily in this market. «We have invested in this trade show and this market very consistently, involving more elements and resources. The German market is a priority market for us and Munich Fabric Start is the ideal event in which to gather almost all our clients under one roof and show our collections», explains José Carlos Ortigão, Sales Area Manager of the company. «During the months of December and January we did not invest heavily in presenting the pre-collections and therefore have great expectations for showcasing the SS15 collection», he adds. Sports Deluxe, Modern Romance and Nature Girl, are the lines highlighted in this SS15 collection by Riopele. The latter features natural organic influences, which are reflected in compositions of cotton and tencel. The line's range of colours evolves around natural shades, with glittery touches and intense colours, in solid blocks, patterns and jacquards.

The trade show is also very important to Somelos. «Somelos exports to Germany, Switzerland and Austria, that is to say, all the German-speaking countries are represented at this Munich trade show and therefore it is important to us», says Sofia Sampaio, company sales representative.

Shirting fabrics for men, women and children will be the highlights on display.

Vilartex is attending the trade show for the second time, with a collection made up of basic items, but also costume, organic, technical and functional items, as well as knits with specific finishes.

Denim made-in Portugal will be doubly represented by Troficolor, as the Portuguese company will also be present in the Blue Zone. From the collection, the novelties of the Denim Red Selvedge range are highlighted.

Considered one of the leading international textile and accessories trade shows, Munich Fabric Start is held twice a year and has around 900 exhibitors from all over the world. Around 20 000 visitors are expected to attend the season opening.

The participation of Portuguese companies in Munich Fabric Start, is an initiative promoted by Associação Selectiva Moda with the support of EU funds (NRSF), within the scope of the From Portugal project and is part of a series of over 65 international activities planned for 2014, covering the entire textile and fashion sector, spread over four continents - Europe, Asia, Africa and America - with a total investment of 9 million Euros.
